WORN The word, “fashion” is descended from the same roots as “fasten” and “facilitate” and once meant something along the lines of “creation by means of bundling and tying” but has (in the last 50 or so years) come to be synonymous with “trendy.” Styles now go in and out of fashion. Worn strives to get back to that earlier meaning, and discover what is of lasting value about clothing and style.
Worn plays a unique role by bringing a political, environmental, historical and cultural context to fashion. Pushing boundaries of collaboration and authorship with fashion magazine tropes like the photo story, Worn expands traditional relationships between models, designers, writers, photographers and illustrators. By exploring where art and fashion overlap, connecting with Fashion scholars and artists, and paying attention to how what is worn gets made, interpreted, transformed, disseminated and copied, Worn opens new avenues in art theory.
Dont worry though because I at least tried to salsa...at least I look cute doing it. I could not stop laughing. The perfect salsa outfit! Beautiful wedding and beautiful girls, I had the time of my life.
I will be looking into the "fashion world" which includes:
designers in history and now fashion illustration pattern and fabric, apparel construction, sewing and tailoring, aesthetic of "style" and "trends", color coordination and accessorizing,
and final products and advertising/design such as: runway shows magazines photoraphy stores seasons of clothing
Problem:
Absorbing all the knowledge that is possible before the end of semester and to gain knowledge of the surrounding community impact of fashion. I want to gain more knowledge of sewing/tailoring and the production process of apparel manufacturing. In the end I will incorporate what I have learned into a fine art piece showing sketch/process/and integrate final sewing/fabric techniques that I have learned only by observing.
There is a lot of talk lately about "Eco-fashion" Bono has even made his own Organic fashion line called: Edun The hope for most is that from Eco friendly high fashion will eventually trickle down into the department stores and become affordable for everyone to afford, but right now its way to expensive to become a trend. Here is a great site with a ton of other links to conscientious companies: Green loop
Self expression through fashion is prevalent everywhere, what you throw on in the morning says somthing about your mood, what your thinking and how you feel about the places you are going....it is beautiful and horrible but all in all its all expression.
I have been in search of apparel manufacturing companies or just little small shops around that are actually constructing clothing and sewing. But, it is difficult, considering that most of this happens overseas, or in bigger bigger cities, such as New York or LA. Much of what I have been finding is sportswear, leather, or "farm clothing" companies! I have also been looking into taking sewing/fashion design classes outside of MCAD. This might be a useful way to to get more information about what is around town too. Im sure the school would have a lot of good information!
I have started this blog for my own curiosity and exploration and also for my Ideation and Process class. I will be looking into the "fashion world" which includes:
